Do you use Amazon’s SiteStripe feature for creating links? Has it disappeared or gotten stuck in the hidden position? This is a recent known issue with SiteStripe and Amazon is working on it.
In the meantime, you can fix it temporarily yourself IF you use the Chrome browser to click a link in the source code. There are two ways to get to the link that toggles SiteStripe open and closed:
- Use Developer Tools to Inspect Element
- View Page Source
First Method: Use Developer Tools
- Go to amazon.com
- Right-click in the upper left corner of the amazon.com homepage
- Select Inspect Element
- Scroll up and look for a div (under a closing </style> tag) with an id that starts with “ns_” and ends with “_hidden” something like the following (session numbers differ). This div contains a link with an onclick event that triggers toggling the Site Stripe open and closed.
- In the div, there’s a link. Click between the quotation marks in href=” ” to expand the hidden SiteStripe.
This is the div you need to find:
<div id="ns_1SAAGWMXY51QFYMWMBZ9_4336_hidden"> <a href="/gp/associates/supdate.html?ie=UTF8&assoc_ss_display=show&assoc_ss_ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2F&sessionId=191-8806889-2708936" onclick="this.href = getUpdatedURL (this.href);return true;">...</a> </div>
This trick works in Chrome, but NOT in Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari (Win).
Second Method: Use View Source
On Amazon.com homepage, right-click in an empty area and select View Page Source. Scroll down to about line 778 and look for a div something like the following, where the id ends with “hidden”. Click in the “href” part of the link, after the first quotation mark to toggle Site Stripe open:
<div id="ns_1SAAGWMXY51QFYMWMBZ9_4336_hidden"> <a href="/gp/associates/supdate.html? ▲ Click here
Here is a screenshot from View Source in Chrome:
If you don’t have Chrome installed on your PC, click Home. Then click “Add Product Links now” OR click “Link to Any Page” in the left column, under Links & Banners. Search for a product and copy the Amazon link code, same as you would using SiteStripe.
